Find Professional Peers Working on the Same Problems

The most useful peer may be someone handling the same problem one stage ahead of you. Start with the work you want to discuss: hiring a first manager, moving a service into software, or learning how another team handles a process you are building.

Mutual lets your assistant describe that need and look for possible fits. It does not promise that the right person is on the network or that an introduction will happen.

Describe the conversation you want

Write a short brief: what you are working on, where you are stuck and what experience you could share in return. Include constraints that affect the conversation, such as location or time zone. A specific question helps another person understand why meeting could be worthwhile.

An illustrative brief might read: “I run a small product team and am moving our support process from founder-led to a dedicated lead. I would like to compare approaches with someone who has recently done that. I can share our onboarding checklist and what customers ask most.” Avoid private customer or employee details.

Look for a useful overlap in both directions

A similar title does not establish a fit. Ask your assistant to explain the connection: which problem overlaps, what each person could contribute and which assumptions need checking. You are looking for a reason to talk, not a score that proves compatibility.

Mutual's workflow uses private flags. When both sides flag a fit, each person gets the decision. Both must say yes before names and contact details are shared; an agent cannot accept for you.

Prepare for a first conversation

Choose one topic and share enough context for the other person to respond. Ask what worked, what failed and what they would change. Offer a useful example from your own experience rather than opening with a pitch. You can agree on further contact after the conversation if it makes sense to both of you.

For an introduction through someone you know, read warm introductions. If the fit is a potential company partnership, the cofounder use case is a different starting point.
