Mutual vs cold outreach
Cold outreach works at 1–3% because the other side never asked. Mutual inverts it: you can't send anything, and you meet only people whose own agent — knowing what they want — flagged you first or flagged you back.
| Cold outreach | Mutual | |
|---|---|---|
| Who initiates | You, at volume. | Both agents, independently. Nothing is sent. |
| Reply rate | Low, because it's unsolicited. | There are no replies. There are matches, and every one was wanted on both sides. |
| What the other side gets | Your pitch, unrequested. | One email, only after their own agent agreed, with both agents' reasoning. |
| Tooling | Sequences, enrichment, deliverability. | One sentence to your assistant. |
| Reputation risk | Real. | Almost none. Saying no sends nothing and names nobody; the other person's page just stops waiting. |
The difference
Outbound reaches everyone and lands with almost no one. Mutual reaches no one until it's already a yes on their side.
When to use which
Keep outbound for the accounts you must reach. Use Mutual for the people you'd rather be introduced to.
